YouTube is putting the finishing touches on a new channel design currently in beta, and the YouTube blog is littered with complaints and threats of impending doom when the new design is launched.
What do people love and hate about the new design ?
- Modern Look
- Keep Visitors on Your Channel
Whether you like them or not, old YouTube Channels have the design quality of a Myspace profile circa 2001. The new channel design finally has newer design elements like rounded corners and in-profile moving and editing of objects.
When a visitor enters your channel they are able to view multiple videos all without leaving the page. This is great for those who create compelling content (and for brands) since it can increase engagement in your videos without the distraction of related videos and video responses. This makes your channel more of a personally branded theater instead of just a profile page.

- Bugs
- No Video Log Feature
- No Groups
The new channel design isn’t bug free just yet, so be prepared for a few glitches in the display and load time on various browsers. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about not being able to default to grid view (currently being added), playlists not displaying properly, and long load times. The new design cannot go live until all these issues are resolved.
Not sure if this is being replaced by the Playlist feature, but I’ve seen numerous complaints about video logs not making the cut
Another casualty of the redesign, it appears that YouTube is either phasing out groups all together (they are no longer an option when searching) or they are revamping them under a different name.
